 The CBC Spouses Essay Contest Scholarship provides academically talented and highly motivated African American or Black high school juniors and seniors the opportunity to address a topic that embodies some of our communities' most pressing issues and are asked to write an essay to defend their research, analyses, and opinion. ​LIBERTY HOSPITAL BSN SCHOLARSHIPS   Up to 5 Scholarships Awarded!

DETAILS: 
Liberty Hospital District and the Liberty Hospital Foundation may provide nursing scholarships to high school seniors with a 3.0 GPA or higher wishing to study nursing full time in pursuit of a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing.  The scholarship for a student wishing to earn the Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing will be a one-time, non-renewable award determined each year by the Liberty Hospital Foundation.  The amount and number of scholarships may vary year to year.  To be eligible for consideration, the applicant must (1) be a high school senior that wishes to pursue a Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing, (2) complete and submit a timely formal application and be available to interview with the Selection Committee.

KC CHIEFS FOOTBALL CLUB LEN DAWSON SCHOLARSHIP

This is not a sports scholarship, but one based on academic achievement, extracurricular activities, and financial need.  Teacher, counselor and principal recommendations will be required as part of the application.   All seniors encouraged to apply, but only one nominee (voted on by the faculty scholarship committee) from Staley can be submitted for consideration.  That nominee's application will be submitted by the April 30 deadline.  The nominee may be asked to appear for a personal interview by the KC Chiefs Football Club.

VOICE OF DEMOCRACY CONTEST - GLADSTONE VFW POST 10906  Open to Grades 9-12

AMOUNT:    Local winners - $100-$500.  State Winner - $2,000.00.  Grand Prize - $30,000.00
DETAILS:  The Voice of Democracy Program is open to students in grades 9-12.  The theme is: "My Responsibility to America."  Students should record their reading of the draft to a CD, Cassette tape, or on a flash drive   The recording can be no shorter than 3 minutes and no longer than 5 minutes.  The grand prize is a $30,000.00 national scholarship and state winners receive $2,000.00.  The top state winners receive an all-expense paid trip to their state capitol and to Washington D.C., where the national winner will be announced.  The Gladstone VFW Post 10906 prizes are 1st place - $500, 2nd place - $250, 3rd place - $100.  Entries begin at the Post level.  Due in Staley Student Support Center by October 25th:   Completed application, typed essay, audio recording of student reading the essay 

Hispanic Heritage Foundation Youth Awards

 Annual Youth Awards will award students with up to $1,000 to fund their higher educations or a community-based project. Recipients will be selected for their accomplishments in the classroom, community, and for their excellence in various educational categories. Recipients will also be celebrated in virtual ceremonies.

NORTHLAND KC ELKS - MOST VALUABLE STUDENT SCHOLARSHIP - 5 scholarships awarded

During the past ten years, Elks Local and State Scholarships have been awarded to Northland high school seniors who have attended the following high schools:  North Kansas City, Oak Park, Staley, Winnetonka, Park Hill, Park Hill South, St. Pius, Liberty, and Platte County R-III.  Seniors who apply will be competing for five local scholarships (4 = $1,000 each, 1 = $4,000).  In addition, applicants will also be in the running for 500 national scholarships.  Requirements:  HS Senior, completed application, recommendation and forms.  All applications, information, and materials are on the Elks Foundation Scholarship Page.

IMPORTANT:  There are two application submissions, one for the NATIONAL Scholarships (submitted online) and one for the LOCAL (mailed or delivered in person).  There are different deadlines for each.  For more information, please download an informational letter from the Northland Elks HERE.
  • Completed online scholarship packets for the NATIONAL scholarships must be be submitted no later than November 15, 2021.

SHOW-ME CHAPTER OF THE SOIL AND WATER CONSERVATION SOCIETY

 The Show-Me Chapter offers a $1000 scholarship for a high school senior, or undergraduate, planning to major in conservation or a natural resources-related field.  This is an essay contest.

MSBA JOHN T. BELCHER SCHOLARSHIP
DUE:  Dec 8, 2021  
AMOUNT: $500-$2,000.00
DETAILS:  Seniors may now apply for the John T. Belcher Scholarship established by the Missouri School Boards Association in his memory. A $1,000 annual scholarship is awarded to a student in each of MSBA's 17 regions. Applicants are judged on the basis of academic performance, extracurricular activities and the quality of an essay. A statewide winner is selected from this group of regional winners and awarded an additional $1,500.

Staley's nominee will be chosen by Dec 8 and will receive a $500 scholarship. That students application will then be forwarded to the NKC Schools Board of Education for their consideration. The one student to represent NKC Schools will be decided by the mid-December school board meeting and submitted for state consideration by the deadline of January 10.

NATIONAL HONOR SOCIETY SCHOLARSHIP PROGRAM

MISSOURI STATE SOCIETY DAUGHTER OF AMERICAN REVOLUTION (MSSDAR) SCHOLARSHIPS

  Below is a listing of scholarships which are offered by the Missouri State Society Daughters of the American Revolution. To learn more about these scholarships and how you can apply, simply download the following forms and scholarship instruction sheet. Please read and follow the instructions and information provided under the "MSSDAR Scholarship" section on this page and the "Scholarship Information and Instructions" page.  If you have questions concerning MSSDAR Scholarships, please contact the scholarship state chair listed on the application instruction page.
  1. MSSDAR Scholarship - A one-time preferred amount of $2,000.00 is awarded to a student pursuing a degree of his/her choice. This scholarship is offered to a graduating Missouri high school senior who plans to attend an accredited college or university in Missouri.
  2. Irene and Leeta Wagy Memorial Scholarship - A one-time preferred amount of $1,000.00 is awarded to a woman pursuing a degree in education.
  3. Dorothy Poikert Memorial Scholarship - A one-time preferred amount of $500.00 is awarded to a student pursuing a degree in business.
  4. Roberta Casteel Capps American History Scholarship - A one-time preferred amount of $1,000.00 is awarded to a student who will have a concentrated study of a minimum of twenty-four credit hours in American History and Government while in college. This scholarship is available to seniors in high school through juniors in college.

KELLY LUTZ MEMORIAL SCHOLARSHIP

MISSOURI JCI SENATE SCHOLARSHIPS

DETAILS:   Each year $1,000 grants will be awarded to high school seniors who are U.S. citizens graduating from U.S. accredited schools, and plan to continue their education at accredited post-secondary colleges, universities or vocational schools. The number of grants awarded annually will be at the discretion of the United States JCI Senate Foundation. They must be used for educational expenses in the first year of full-time study.  The Missouri JCI Senate scholarships are highly selective based on not only academics but also special emphasis for demonstrating leadership aptitude for the future.

NKC SCHOOLS - DELTA KAPPA GAMMA - FUTURE TEACHERS SCHOLARSHIP

MISSOURI NEA - EDUCATORS RISING SCHOLARSHIP

 This scholarship was established to encourage and support high school students wishing to become teachers.  Applicants must be a Missouri high school senior planning to attend a college with an education or pre-education program to pursue a career in teaching, and a member of the Educator Rising Association. The Foundation for Missouri DECA provides scholarships for members of Missouri DECA who plan to continue their studies in marketing, finance, hospitality, management, entrepreneurship, business administration, or a related field at an accredited two or four year college or university. ​EXCELLENCE IN EDUCATION AWARDS - THE CHAMBER'S CHOICE

KC SCHOLARS - For juniors and freshmen!

​Traditional (11th grader):  High school 11th graders can apply for up to $10,000/year for up to five years. Students must enroll in college full-time beginning the fall semester immediately following high school graduation at one of the 17 colleges or universities in the KC Scholars network. Students are also required to complete GPA and graduation requirements their senior year in order to receive the scholarship the first year of college. The scholarship will be sent directly to the college or university of enrollment.  To remain eligible once enrolled in college, students must meet minimum annual requirements and complete a short renewal application each year. ​College Savings Match (9th grader):  High school 9th graders can apply to receive a 4-to-1 match on contributions into a 529 college savings account. The maximum match granted is $5,000, but an additional $2,000 is available in incentives for completing key college-ready milestones in high school. Annually, a 529 college savings account will be opened for 1,000 students selected through the application process. Of the 1,000 for whom an account is opened, 50 will be selected to be in the match and incentives program. This is a one-time award.  Students must enroll in college full-time the fall immediately following high school graduation. SevenDays Essay Competition- 5 scholarships awarded

DETAILS:   The SevenDays Essay Competition is open to high school seniors who have shown leadership in their communities by creating and/or managing service projects that spread ripples of kindness. ASSISTANCE LEAGUE OF KANSAS CITY (ALKC) SCHOLARSHIP

GREATER KANSAS CITY PFLAG/GLSEN SCHOLARSHIP

 The Kansas City chapters of PFLAG and GLSEN have joined to support young people in furthering their education.  They have establish scholarships for graduating high school students in the Greater Kansas City area who identify as LGBTQ+.  The organizations will provide two $1000 scholarships for the post-secondary education (college, university, training, trade school) of one LGBTQ+ high school senior in the greater Kansas City metropolitan area of Missouri and Kansas.
APPLICATION DETAILS:  Students will complete an online application AND a short essay (approximately 500-1000 words) on the following prompt:  Describe (a) how you would like to see the climate for LGBQ+ youth improve in the next five years and (b) describe what role you will play in making this happen.  Draw from your own insights, intentions, and strengths in your writing.

​ZETA ETA NU CIVIC SCHOLARSHIP

Zeta Eta Nu, a local service sorority, is once again offering a scholarship this year to a local female high school graduate. The Alpha chapter of Zeta Eta Nu is a civic service sorority that serves organizations such as Northcare Hospice and Northland Early Education Center, as well as raises money for other organizations in the Northland.  We are pleased to be able to offer a scholarship to a college bound student that has demonstrated an interest and involvement in service activities.  The scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria:  community service, academic achievements, personal achievements, demonstrated leadership, financial need, and recommendations.  The scholarship recipient will be announced in April.  All completed applications should be sent to Zeta Eta Nu Scholarship Committee, Cathy Langjahr, 7405 N.W. 75th St., Kansas City, MO 64152.  Applications must be postmarked by February 27, 2021.  Application, transcript and letters of recommendation are to be mailed together in a single packet.  If you have any questions, please contact Cathy Langjahr at 816-868-5228 or csmitty721@sbcglobal.net.

AGC of Missouri Education Foundation Scholarship Program  Multiple Scholarships Awarded

DETAILS:  The Associated General Contractors of Missouri, the leading voice in the construction industry, represents and serves construction contractors and industry related companies dedicated to skill, integrity, and responsibility. The Association works with the community it serves to build a strong, positive construction business climate. 

ELIGIBILITY: 
1. College Scholarship- Applicants MUST attend a Missouri college, university, or other eligible school or such an institution which is located in a state contiguous to Missouri, on a full time basis. Applicants field of study MUST be in construction or a construction related field. 
2. Skilled Trades/ Vo-Tech Scholarship- Applicants MUST attend a Department of Labor registered Apprenticeship Program or pursuing a program requiring one academic year or more for certification at an institution in Missouri or which is located in a state contiguous to Missouri, on a full time basis.
3. Graduating high school seniors and college students attending accredited universities, colleges, community colleges, vocational, or technical schools, and DOL registered Apprenticeship programs are eligible to apply. Vocational and technical school students MUST be pursuing a program requiring one academic year or more for certification. Only apprentices or students pursing certification in skilled trades related to construction will be considered for the Skilled Trades/ Vo-Tech Scholarship. 
4. Applicants MUST desire a career in the construction industry upon graduation. Eligibility is not limited to students pursuing technical degrees. The AGC of Missouri Education Foundation retains the right to determine if a major or program in which the student is enrolled meets this eligibility requirement. 
5. Applicant MUST be a U.S. citizen or documented permanent resident of the United States (i.e. must possess a "permanent resident" card).

UMKC- Henry W. Bloch Scholars Program

The Henry W. Bloch Scholars Program was created for local students with a determination to succeed, regardless of their finances, test scores or life circumstances. It does not require a certain GPA, ACT score or class rank to apply.

To be considered for the program, students must: 
  • Live in one of these five area counties: Clay, Jackson and Platte in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas
  • Submit FAFSA (Free Application for Federal Student Aid) and demonstrate financial need (eligible or nearly eligible for the Federal Pell Grant Program)
  • Plan to enroll full time to earn a four-year degree in a standard undergraduate program (students entering professional programs are not eligible)
  • Be unable to receive other scholarships due to academic performance and/or life circumstances

UMKC- Marion H. Bloch Scholars Program

This scholarship supports local students with achievements in academics, leadership and community engagement.

To be considered for the program, students must:
  • Live in one of these five area counties: Clay, Jackson and Platte in Missouri, and Johnson and Wyandotte in Kansas
  • Have an ACT score of 29 or above (students with lower ACT scores who submit the FAFSA and are eligible or nearly eligible for the Federal Pell Grant Program may also be considered)
  • Have a core GPA of 3.6 or above
  • Demonstrate leadership and/or involvement in community engagement activities
  • Plan to enroll full time in a standard undergraduate program (students entering professional programs are not eligible)
  • Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident

MISSOURI COURAGE SCHOLARSHIP

:  The 2020 scholarship application is now open for students. The deadline is March 1. Last year the Missouri Courage Scholarship (MCS) awarded more than $75,000 to students from across the state who demonstrated their courage and commitment to LGBTQ+ people in their schools and communities. This year the Missouri Courage Scholarship will award up to $15,000 to qualified students in the form of four awards:

  • Trans Courage Award

ELIZABETH SPELMAN HEALTH CAREER SCHOLARSHIP 12 scholarships awarded!!!

For seniors living in Clay, Platte or Clinton counties, must be entering a college or university in the fall 2022 with a declared major in a health-related curriculum.  The Elizabeth Spelman Health Career Scholarship program was established in 1968 by the late Dr. Arch E. Spelman in memory of his mother and is today underwritten by the auxiliary and medical staff of Saint Luke’s North Hospital. MBA established the Missouri Bankers Foundation in 1985 to provide funding for college scholarships for high school students planning to pursue banking-related college degrees. The foundation solicits and manages investments and distributes funds to support continuing education for Missouri bankers and students preparing for a career in the banking industry.   Seven $1,000 scholarships are awarded to graduating high school seniors from MBA Regions 3 – 7 (one scholarship per region). Willis W. Alexander (1919-1985) was a career banker and a past president of both the American Bankers Association and MBA. Through the generosity of its Members, the Association has awarded more than $125 million in privately funded need-based scholarships to more than 22,000 young people over the past 31 years in all 50 states and Puerto Rico. It has also become a leading resource for information about teenagers, resiliency, and nonprofit best practices.  To be eligible to apply for a Horatio Alger State Scholarship, applicants must meet the following criteria:
  • Be enrolled full time as a high school senior in the United States; be progressing normally toward graduation in spring/summer of 2022 with plans to enter a college in the United States no later than the fall following graduation
  • Exhibit a strong commitment to pursue and complete a bachelor’s degree at an accredited non-profit public or private institution in the United States (students may start their studies at a two-year institution and then transfer to a four-year institution)

UNICO NATIONAL - KANSAS CITY CHAPTER, INC - Several scholarships!

These scholarships are for students with Italian-American heritage.  Each year the UNICO-Kansas City Chapter awards competitive scholarships to metropolitan Kansas City area high school seniors. NKC SCHOOLS - FINISH STRONG SCHOLARSHIP  - 2 Scholarships awarded!

 To apply, applicants should have at least a 3.0 GPA, demonstration of ability and effort to overcome adversity, and have financial need.  The Darrel Bland Sertoma Club of North Kansas City provides two $1,000 scholarships to district seniors who demonstrate a critical financial need and a commitment to academics and community service.  
INSTRUCTIONS:  Completed application with essay, official transcript, and 2 letters of recommendation are due in the Staley Counseling Office by March 23th.  The counselor recommendation form (last page of the application) will need to be left blank - it will be completed between March 1-16 by the student's counselor.  The Staley Scholarship Committee will select five applicants to forward on to Jan Lewis and the NKC Schools Education Foundation.

  On April 1, 2001, a car accident claimed the lives of 3 friends:  Jason, Kyle, and Jeff, Oak Park High School graduates.  in 2012 the JJK Memorial foundations was established with the goals of creating a Reflection/Memorial Garden in Hobby Hill Park in Gladstone and providing a scholarship for a Northland High School Senior.  To honor the memory of Jason, Kyle and Jeff we have established this scholarship about friendship.

During his tenure, the district earned national recognition for its cutting-edge curriculum, advanced degree programs, innovative technology and fine arts programs. Music has special meaning for the Cummings family. Sons Ben and Daniel were members of the Oak Park High School orchestra, and they played in many string quartets over the years. This scholarship will be awarded to a student who has been in orchestra.

  Jo Anne Baker was an essential part of Oakwood Manor Elementary since its annexation by North Kansas City Schools in 1959. She opened the library, and it’s where her own children went to school. For 34 years, she served as an office clerk. She loved her job and the thousands of young people who attended school there over the decades. This memorial scholarship will be awarded to a graduate of North Kansas City Schools who is also a former student at Oakwood Manor Elementary School.

This scholarship assists students who enroll in and complete a training program, with the desire to learn a useful skill set that will launch them into the workforce and provide a viable income and secure future. Created by Alice and Elmer Black and supported and later managed by an Avondale United Methodist Church committee, the scholarship funds are now part of the North Kansas City Schools Education Foundation and available to district students who plan to pursue vocational training beyond high school. Eligible areas of vocational training include the construction trades (plumbing, electrical, carpentry and HVAC technician), as well as the culinary arts, cosmetology, automotive technology, agriculture, landscaping, nursing and other certifications. NKC-NEA ELAINE NICK SCHOLARSHIP

DETAILS:   This $300.00 scholarship is available to any graduating senior from a North Kansas City School District high school or the child of a NKCNEA member who has a 3.0 GPA and intends to enroll in college for the purpose of receiving a degree in education and pursuing a career in teaching.  Along with this application, you need to submit one letter of recommendation from a teacher or employer.  All materials must be submitted to the NKC-NEA Office at 6022 N.E. DETAILS: 
Basic Criteria for Scholarship Awards - The student must be a resident of Missouri. Applicants must be under the age of 21, unmarried and a descendant* of a veteran with at least ninety days active service in the U. S. Army, Navy, Air Force, Marines or Coast Guard, who received an Honorable Discharge for such service. A photocopy of the veteran's DD 214, discharge or separation notice must accompany the scholarship application. Any additional requirements for each scholarship are on the reverse side of the application.
  • Lillie Lois Ford Scholarship Fund  - Two awards of $1,000 each are given each year. One to a boy who has attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State of Missouri or a full session of the Department's Cadet Patrol Academy. The second award is given to a girl who has attended a full session of The American Legion Auxiliary's Girls State program or a full session of the Department's Cadet Patrol Academy. 
  • M.D. "Jack" Murphy Memorial Nurses Training Fund  - Currently one $1,000 award is given for two successive semesters, and may, by application, be extended for two additional successive semesters.  This award is available to a Missouri boy or girl training to be a Registered Nurse, and may be used in their freshman or subsequent college years.  The student must have graduated in the top forty percent of their high school class or have a "C" or equivalent standing from their last college or university semester.  Scholarships are awarded for one year, payable $375 per semester.  
  • Joseph J. Frank Scholarship – Five awards of $750.00 are given annually to individuals who are descendants of a veteran. Applicant must have attended a full session of The American Legion Boys State or The American Legion Auxiliary Girls State program. Applicants must be unmarried, under the age of 21, a current resident of the state of Missouri and must use the scholarship as a full time student in an accredited college or university.  
  • Charles L. Bacon Memorial Scholarship  - Two awards of $750.00 are given annually in memory of the first Missourian to serve as National Commander of The American Legion.  Eligible are individuals who are currently members of The American Legion, the American Legion Auxiliary, or the Sons of The American Legion, or a descendant* of a member of any thereof.  Applicants must be unmarried, a resident of Missouri, under the age of 21, and must use the scholarship as a full-time student in an accredited college or university.  
  • Erman W. Taylor Memorial Scholarship - Two $750.00 awards are given annually to a student planning on obtaining a degree in education, in honor of this Past National Executive Committeeman from Missouri.  To be eligible, individuals must:  (1) be a descendant* of a veteran who served 90 or more days of active duty in the armed forces and having an honorable discharge; (2) be a Missouri resident; (3) use the award as a full-time student at an accredited college or university; (4) provide a copy of the discharge certificate for the veteran on whose the application is made; and (6) submit an essay of 500 words or less on the subject  "In your opinion, what was the most significant event of the past year?"
